2009 – 2011. Handmade pillows (fabric, paper, trims, bandaids, etc.), collage, chairs "Homage to Mothers" is an interactive installation examining the complex relationships we all have with our mothers. I solicit from volunteers and viewers words and phrases associated with one’s mother, which tell the stories of many mothers. I then give these descriptors and narratives a physical form: pillows.
2009 – 2011. Handmade pillows (fabric, paper, trims, bandaids, etc.), collage, chairs Pillows, those ubiquitous objects of daily use, seem an appropriate physical object for describing our experiences of mothers. Some are functional, some are not; some are soft to the touch, some are painful. The pillows are structured into groupings that evoke open-ended interpretations. While this is primarily my project, frequent collaborator Yolanda Daliz and I have also exhibited this as a collaboration with the title "Mamanaje: Homenaje a las Madres".
